SLAM 148 is On Sale Now!

Rounding Up
by Cris Jones

The best first round ever? Maybe we're a little too excited, but the prospects of the Grizzlies, a No. 8 seed, eliminating the No. 1-seeded Spurs in the opening round are just amazing.A first round exit for the Spurs would most probably have the end of a wonderful era in San Antonio, but this series is far from over.

The Spurs have life, with Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Coach Pop. So one would be foolish to study them out.

The Oklahoma City Thunder disposed of the Denver Nuggets to advance past Round 1 for the first time since the Thunder moved to OKC. But is a secret battle to be "the man" brewing between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook? Only time will tell.

Quite possibly the best thing to get out of the opening round is the Celtics-Heat series that now awaits us in about two. Usually a matchup of such potential awesomeness doesn't grace us until the NBA Finals, or the Conference Finals, at least. But to get a series of this magnitude, bursting with storylines, so early? Truly a blessing for the NBA fan. The Celtics believe they have one more run in them, while the Heat feel like their time is now. Let's hope this one goes seven.

So as the 1st round of the 2011 NBA Playoffs comes to a close, I say goodbye. Let's hope the 2nd round picks up right where the first's momentum left off.
