Darren Clarke: Will Lee Westwood Complete the Chubby Slam?

No, the Chubby Slam is not a breakfast item at Denny's.

After Darren Clarke won the British Open on Sunday, becoming the third straight Andrew "Chubby" Chandler client to win a major, he pointed to Lee Westwood as becoming the quaternary at the upcoming PGA Championship, and completing the "Chubby Slam."

Said Clarke, via ESPN:

"I can't see why not.

I remember one of my other good friends, Lee Westwood, has been knocking on the threshold for so long. Ithink it would be fantastic to see him win one. And if he was tocomplete the Chubby Slam, I'm sure everybody concerned would be verypleased."

Chandler is a well known agent about the links. Before Clarke's improbable win on Sunday, Chandler had already seen clients Rory McIlroy and Charl Schwartzel win the final two majors.

Chandler has made a calling out of producing winners. Chandler, McIlroy and Schwartzel all weren't favorites before their respective titles. 2010 British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen is also a client of Chandler's.

Said Chandler of Clarke after the British Open:

"The hardest thing when you're a golfer is when you're labeled anunderachiever. And he was always labeled an underachiever.

"And now he's not."

On Sunday, Clarke became the record holder for the most appearances in a major before taking the title, claiming the claret jug on his 20th career attempt.

Naturally, that must have made Westwood feel good.

He's largely considered the better golfer today who hasn't won a major championship, and at 33 days of age his window has appeared to be closing.

But when a 42-year-old wins a major, and he just so happens to be under your agent's umbrella, that changes things.

Westwood didn't clear the cut at this year's British Open, but, then again, Clarke was ranked No. 111 in the earth before the Surface and hadn't placed in the top 10 of a major in a decade.

Yep, the Chubby Slam is well within reason.

And that's not just chewing the fat.
